Hi
I had a dvt after 2 long haul flights within 10 days, on august 21st, put on
lovenox and warfarin. My inr is 3.2 at the moment, they've decreased my warfarin
by 2.5mg, my question is , does anyone else get aches & pains in their non dvt
leg? I'm afraid it's another Clot. I have no redness or swelling, it just aches
around my hip/ thigh area .

I have been reading on these posts that many people go through their course of coumadin (warfarin) treatment for 6 (+) months, then go in for blood screens for any clotting disorders once they are off of coumadin. What has been other people's experience with testing for clotting disorders? The reason I ask is that I was tested after a week of being on Lovonox and warfarin, and tested positive for APLS. I was retested a month later while on warfarin and taking antibiotics for an infection and tested positive again. In anyone's opinion how acturate is the testing while on warfarin? I can't seem to find any answers on this. I guess the reason I am asking is twofold: 1) I hear most people being tested for clotting disorders post treatment for the original DVT; 2) In denial.

Arixtra vs Warfarin

I am a 36 year old female diagnosed with a DVT in my left femoral and iliac ( left
upper leg). I was diagnosed 7 wks ago just after giving birth via c-section. I am
so frustrated! I have been to and talked with several different doctors
(hematologists, gynecologists, and soon a vascular surgeon) and they all tell me
different things: exercise, don't exercise, 3 months on warfarin, 6 months on
warfarin, warfarin doesn't cause weight gain, warfarin does cause you to retain
water.

I got to a point not long after my INR hit 2.0 where I couldn't lose any more of
the baby weight and I wonder if it's the warfarin. I'm considering going on the
arixtra shots for 2 wks to see if that changes. Has anyone tried this? My doctor
says it's more expensive, but you don't have to get your blood tested every
week. Or worry about eating too many leafy green vegetables.

My leg swells every time I go to the gym. Do I push myself or take it easy? Argh!
I love being active and... read more

Has anyone had another clot while on coumadin

I had an extensive clot on right leg in august after 2 long haul trips to uk & back
to us, was on lovenox & warfarin for 10 days now just warfarin, my first dvt leg(
right ) doesn't hurt now & swelling has gone down, but about a week ago I
started getting pain in my left thigh , my inr was 2.8 last week . I went to ER
Monday & they scanned left leg with Doppler which they didn't do at same time
as first dvt, they found a clot on my groin but couldn't determine whether it was
from the flights or a new one.
Confused !
Going to see hematologist Monday x

For the last couple of weeks I've been suffering from anxiety( which I don't
understand as my dvt leg no longer hurts and is almost back to normal size)
I had a panic attack a couple of weeks ago & the Dr gave me 0.5mg Xanax
Which helps me sleep, but a few days ago I started to get the shakes all over,
always at home, lasts for about 15 minutes & goes as quickly as it's started.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop or overcome these ???

How to tell if a wound is healing properly?

Yesterday I ended up doing a real dummy. When I opened my car door, I grazed my leg with the door. Even though I was wearing corduroy pants, the graze peeled off skin as if it was tissue paper.

I now have a wound that measures 1 1/2 inches long by 3/4 inches wide on just to the side of my shin. Because of the Coumadin, it took longer for the blood to clot, so that the scab is very dark and raised.

What signs should I be aware of to know whether or not this wound is healing properly?

Heart rate at rest

I went to my doctor last week after being diagnosed with DVT and PE's 2 1/2 weeks earlier. Spent 7 days in the hospital, 3 of with in ICU.

Anyhow the doc put a pulse meter on my finger and we walked the hallways of his office building and my heart was at 105-110 BPM and he said that a normal person at my fitness level should be at a 70 BMP. Doc said that my clot is cutting of circulation so my heart must work harder and I should have a normal pulse rate within 4 months.

I think part of the reason my pulse rate is so high is because of the tremendouse anxiety and fear of suddenly getting so sick like this andded on are the side effects of Warfarin and serious marital problem that started before I was diagnosed with this condition.

Does anyone here have a high resting heart rate because of their condition?

Hi everyone
Was diagnosed with occlusive DVT in May in 3 veins and have been told they will never go away now. If a clot does not dissolve in 1 month then basically you are stuck with it. Am off warfarin as i believe the side effects were worse than the clot. It all started about 1 month after taking warfarin. Swelling in the ankle joint and severe pain on walking. After xray 4 months later and inflammatory arthritis had set in and 1 month later no better, still hobbling big time.Is there any one from Brisbane Aust out there, would love to hear from you and see where your at.

Warfarin vs coumadin

Has anyone switched from warfarin sodium to coumadin?
I've had headaches ever since I've been on warfarin & read somewhere that
there's a dye in the warfarin that isn't present in the coumadin & this may be
responsible for headaches ?
Just curious x

When to test INR after change in dose?

I'm just beginning this long journey on warfarin/coumadin after being diagnosed with DVT.

I did a lot of research on warfarin and understnd that it has a very long half life, which means that it can take the body a considerable amount of time to adjust to changes in dosage levels, on top of its complex reaction to changes in the metabolism. So my question is, if your dosage level is changed significantly, when is the optimal time to have your INR levels restested?

I was on 5 mg. per day starting on a Saturday. My intial INR prior to starting was 1.1. I was tested again on Monday, with an INR of 1.2. On Wednesday, after almost 96 hours at that dosage level at which time the med should have reached maximum effect in my system, I still tested 1.2. My dosage was increased by 40% to 7 mg. starting Wednesday night. Blood was drawn on Saturday morning, or 60 hours after increasing the dose. INR was 2.2, with a targeted level of 2.5. My doctor called me on Sunday and has dropped my do... read more

Pain in the thigh

I have pain in the backside of my left thigh since yesterday (6 inches above my knee). I have had 2 episodes of DVT 18 months back in the same leg. This does not feel like DVT, has anyone experienced pain in this area and diagnosed as DVT? Do we have veins running in the back side of thigh, because whenever I have done the ultrasound, the sonologist always checked the front side of thigh for clots.
