DVT and Workmen Comp

Hello,
I was injured 6 month ago at work.In result of that I had DVT and PE.
They found PE right before the surgery on my back and the doctors putted an IVC filter in my vena cava.First, the doctor said that the filter will be temporary, but now they decided to live it permanent.
That means I have to be on blood thinner for rest of my live. The DVT is in my right leg and the leg is swollen but not that bad. There is a pain if I stand up for longer time. There is about 1cm difference compare to the left leg. I'm 41 years old and live in state of Illinois. My case is under workmen comp.
Is that will be threaded as a permanent disability?
The doctor said that my leg will be swollen and maybe get worst with the ages because the blood circulation gets slow. After 6 months the Doppler test still shows blood clot in my leg.The doctor said that the clot is attached to the vessels wall and become part of it.
I will appreciate any advises.
Thank you.

DVT not gone

In late April I was diagnosed with a DVT halfway up my thigh down into my calf. Was put on Warfarin and the symptoms I had dissapeared quite quickly. I have always been pretty active and consider myself a young man still at just over 30. No primary reason on factor could be found for the clot and so was on the Warfarin for 6 months. I have venous insufficiency in my leg with the clot which has probably been worsened but today had an ultra sound and it shows the DVT hasn't really resolved much at all from my understanding. Wondering if this can happen and is any one has any advice or similar tale. I am quiet anxious about it all again now

Thanks

Has anybody has unusual reactions to bee/wasp sting while on Coumdin or warfarin?

Its been many years since I have been stung by a bee or a wasp, but somehow I manged to get stung twice in the last three months while on Coumadin. The first sting had a reaction that lasted two weeks and my INR went up to 3.3 from previous readings of 1.9 and 1.7.

I was stung again this week and two days later, my hand swelled considerably, turned bright red and was hot to the touch. Benadryl did not stop the swelling. The doctor prescribed antibiotics and within 36 hours my hand is back to normal.

I researched the web, but cannot find anything to address this. I'd love to know if others have had similar experiences.

post knee surgery dvt prevention

Hello all...anyone have experience with DVT prevention measures before and after a knee surgery?
History: I had a DVT in my left calf, bi-lateral PE's, about a year ago. Did the coumadin treatment for 6 months and got the all clear. The cause of the DVT was a torn MCL in my left knee combined with long haul air travel. I got the MRI done this past spring to prove the tear, but my knee doctor wanted to wait until I was off warfarin before surgery. I decided to wait until summer was thru and now I am planning the surgery this December.
Since I have had a DVT now, I am concerned about getting another. Knee surgery's can be an easy cause of DVT's...of course we have an advantage of knowing and taking precautions. I believe I will be back on coumadin for a few weeks after surgery...just would like advise from anyone that might of gone through this and see your recommendations.
Thanks. kb

Hi all...Well I have become the lifer as well. This is my second DVT. The first became a BPE due to I fly allot. This time My doctor caught a small or large I don't know DVT right behind mt left knee. Well They started me on the shots, and have moved me to warfrin (Rat Poison). as a lifer. It has only been 30 days, and my calf still hurts some times, but I am so worried about throwing the clot and it moving up to my heart every ack or pain sends me into a panic. Does anyone know or has been told how long until it's not likely to trow the clot? or when I can stop worring so much?
Thank for any replies...

Hi everyone.

I had a PE back in 2005, large clots in both lungs. I had no prior DVT and no history of clots. I have never smoked and I was a healthy 29 year old male. I spent 2 weeks in intensive care and was discharged on Warfarin for about 6 months. Following a blood test I was told to stop taking Warfarin as I was OK. My Haemoglobin level was a little high but after an arguement betwen BUPA and the NHS it was decided that I was within range.

For the next few years I had very occassional pains in my calf which I always described as the sensation of a golf ball or egg sized object in the back of my lower leg. Often I had pain behind the knee and pains in the thigh which I guess were due to my limping. I reported each of these cases but blood tests and scans always returned negative and they were passed off as calf strain.

Back in July 09 I had a really bad ache so I went for another ultrasound which came back negative. The pain went away after a couple of weeks. At the end... read more

Hi All, I just want some advice please.

Has anyone had an extensive DVT from Groin or higher to Ankle and have tried exercising on a exercise bike? If so, how did your leg stand up to the movement? Is it better than walking - I find my leg starts to swell after about 10 mins of straight walking? I really do need someone with this type of extensive DVT to reply as small clots don't seem to have the same impact on exercise capabilities than large ones from what I have read thus far.

Thanks to anyone that can assist.

Multiple PEs (DVT), Coumadin Side Effects!!!

Hi,

I'm a 23 year old male recently released from the hospital with multiple bilateral pulmonary emboli. Doctors said there was major blockage with infarction in both lungs. Massive clots.
Ultrasound revealed no additional clots in the legs which is good news.

Tests revealed genetic pre-disposals (Protein C deficient) so I'm a lifer for coumadin.

Started dose at 10mg per day, then slowly dropped to 7.5, then 5 and now at 2.5 after a week at my INR being over 4. I'm in the low 3s and have my next blood test here in about an hour. While I was in the hospital I was taking 2 lovenox injections per day. After 7 days of Lovenox they took me off and now I only take the coumadin. I've been on coumadin since Oct 21, its now Nov 11.

I started noticing some side effects, but after reading here and other sites I'm very concerned that nothing is going to help.

I have extreme lower back pain. Headaches every single day. Frontal lobe headaches that hurt worse when I cough. I have ... read more

Stubborn Blood

Hi all,

Since I've moved to Spain, my blood level has pretty much held steady between 4 and 5...usually right below five. Back home, I was more normal, between 2 and 3.

It's driving me crazy because my diet here is NOT that different, at all...I am eating less greens here, which, of course is like BINGO. I told my host mom last week that I needed her to buy more veggies like broccoli etc...because the greens I am eating are not those that are really known for being high in vitamin K.

I am just wondering if any of you have had a problem similar and we able to fix it by creating a regular diet. For instance, before my past blood draw, I tried to eat something with vitamin K in it every other day...but my blood level was still high when I went in on Friday for an INR check.

I eat the same foods every week, because that is how my host mom is, she cooks the same like 7 or 8 meals over and over again, just rotates the days. So I don't have a crazy eating schedule, if anythi... read more

DVT + Varicose Veins

Hi

I am suffering from DVT and have been on warfarin for the last 10 years! Since last year, I have also developed varicosity and the Doctor has suggested a laser procedure to kill off the vein. This will supposedly help me in reducing the reflux and prevent future DVTs from happening.

I would like a second opinion before going ahead with the procedure.

Has anyone undergone similar treatment and if yes, how effective was it?

I would also want to consult DVT experts in Mumbai, India if you know of any?

Your responses would be highly appreciated.

Regards

Saj

Hi,
My partner and I are going on a (well deserved) break to a hotel with a spa bath
in our room. I would like to know if it is safe for me to use this having been
diagnosed with a dvt in my groin 2 months ago. I'm on warfarin and in generally
good health though still suffering from a lot of aches and pains in my leg and
would love a relaxing bubbly bath if possible, but am obviously keen to keep
any risks to a minimum!

I consented to try warfarin for afib; big mistake! I am one who has side affects from most all meds; I also have acute post polio which adds to this problem. I never get calls back from Drs office dont liike being on this toxic blood thinner. I have only been on it 13 days, feel horrible since started it. If one goes cold turkey, when do you start back on aspirin therapy ? I was on low dose, , should I take a higher dose of aspirin. Cant depend on Drs. have to rely on others who been there.

I had arthroscopic surgery on my right knee on Oct 9th. On Oct 15th I had an ultrasound done because of the calf pain I was having and it came back positive for dvt at the trifurcation. The dvt was almost completely blocking my vein. I'm 25 and was very active until I tore my meniscus that lead to my surgery. I was also on birth control pills at the time. My concern is how could it have dissolved that fast? I think I'm getting another ultrasound at a different location to be sure before I start physical therapy but has anyone ever heard of one dissolving that fast? I find it pretty odd it went away that quick. I had 28 lovenox shots and I have been on 9 mg of coumadin.

DVT caused by Pregnancy

I developed a DVT in my left leg due to pregnancy at 6 weeks. It's been almost a year since the delivery and I went for an ultrasound yesterday and was told there is pretty much no change (my dvt is extensive, takes up almost my entire leg form my upper thigh down to my calf). I was on lovenox during the pregnancy and now coumadin. I was told there pretty much isn't anything else that can be done...either my body disolves the clot on it's own or I have to stay on blood thinners for the rest of my life and just live with the clot. I've done alot of research and I just want to know if this is in fact the case? Is there really NOTHING else that can be done to rid myself of this clot? I have been considering switching doctors to get another opininon

hi i got a blood clot about a year ago after i tour all the tendons in my ankle. i cut myself just above the ankle about 8 months ago and they never healed and laity the skin has become vary sensitive. my doctor put me on a diabetic medication to help the circulation in the leg(also the skin started to become vary dry and started pealing like a really bad sunburn) and in the past few weeks it seems to be helping i'm also using bag balm every night but my main issue is that every once in a while i get a really sharp pain in the side of my leg right above the sores, my doctor told me that there is nothing that can be done about that and gave me some pain meds to help but it hits instantly and lasts anywhere from 15 seconds to 2 minutes. it hurts so bad what ever i'm doing i have to stop right away. if i'm driving witch scares me the most i have to pull over right away. its unbearable.

i don't believe him that there's nothing that can be done but when i tried to go see another docto... read more
