Hello all!

DVT + PE's in march 2009. I just had bloodtests done after 6 months of warfarin. It turns out I have Antiphospholipid Syndrome and Lupus anticoagulant. Right now I'm pretty confused about all this, and I would like to hear, if there are others on this forum with the same thing?

There are people here who say that you need to come off Warfarin slowely or be weened off of it. I have found no literature that supports this nor has my doc told me so. In fact there were time when my INR was too high and he had me not take Warfarin for 2 or 3 days.

The Dangers of Flying

Frequent travelers can take steps to prevent deep vein thrombosis

By Donna D. Castellone

In 1940, a British physician noticed an increase in pulmonary embolism (PE) in people sitting in air raid shelters during the blitz. In 1986, researchers found that at London's Heathrow airport, 18 percent of 61 sudden death cases resulted from a PE. In 2000, a 28-year-old woman flew from Sydney to London and died from deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

Seats on airplanes are a mere 28-31 inches apart, based on a military evaluation and the capacity to get out of that seat in an emergency. Realistically, seats should be 40 inches apart.

Statistics:

Every day, the U.S. boards more than 1.7 million passengers, for a total of 600 million passengers per year. A recorded 1.52 medical diversions occurred per billion miles flown.

No clots were seen for people traveling less than 1,550 miles, but clots appeared in one of every 2.5 million passengers who flew betwee... read more

Hello all - does anyone know anything about Factor II gene mutation? I had appointment with haematologist today who thinks that this is why I've had DVT and two PE's in the last three years. So warfarin forever.... I kind of expected that, but would be interested to know if anyone else has heard of this? Also possible links to hormone fluctuations - odd that this suddenly caused problems when I hit menopause (I'm now 49) As always thanks for any comments

Anyone have any experience of the above combination? My Dr thinks unrelated but can't get my head round this as all relate to either initial inability to clot or clotting too damn much!

Odd combination but I can't be alone out there!?

Sorry so many questions!!!

Pregnancy DVT

Im 31 years old and nearly 27 weeks pregnant. Yesterday a scan confirmed I have a blood clot close to my groin area. It is extremely painful to walk on. I am taking daily innohep injections and wearing compression stockings which I hate but I know they are doing their job.
I know pregnancy can increase your risk of clots but I dont know anyone else who this has happened to. I would love to hear from any women who this has happened to. The things I would be most worried about are PEs and lasting damage to my leg. Also am I stuck wearing these stockings for a long time?
The hospital are monitoring me closely now and I am seeing a haemotologist as well as an obstetrician. Im just so frustrated that this has happened. The pregnancy had been going so well. Was so delighted about this as we suffered a miscarriage last year. I will be investigated a few months after the baby is born to find out if there were any genetic factors or other conditions which led to the clot.
I will be so gr... read more

Testing to go OFF of Coumadin

Hello - I am on coumadin therapy (have DVT stretching from knee to groin - and multiple PE's). It has been over three months now. My GP says she thinks it will be the end of December before I am finished taking therapy. She does not seem to think I need a follow-up scan of my lungs or of my leg to see what the damage is / if there is anything left in there.

Currently I still have discolouration of my leg, discomfort and occasional pain in my calf and thigh (as well as tingling sensation). My lungs will ache at times.

What can I say to insist that I have a test to make sure it's okay to go off of coumadin (of course I want to be off of it but only if I'm good to go).

What about everyone else? Do you have a test (or tests) before going off of coumadin?

I had a dvt in my right calf in september due to a works injury(crushed by a car).im on warfarin for 3 months. After that im going to have a scan to see if the clot has gone.the senior consultant says its not vein that causes the clot, its the blood that forms the clot. Is this true?
Ive spoken to my solicitor(work injury claim),he wants me to have scan to see how much damaged has been done to the vein.On the news there is new scan machine, that can scan arterys and veins in full 3D.Which takes minutes and get results straight away. They said on the news that there are only 2 or 3 in the country(in England). Can anyone tell me where they are.and do you have to pay for it?

Had a dvt from a knee injury back in June. Was put on warfarin for 4 months.
Have been on asprin a day since. Monday this week had agonising pain in left
leg calf (too similar to be anthing but a clot) went to soca had clexane injection
and went for a scan tuesday. Clotting behind the knee (which is where it was
first time) they said they couldn't tell if it was a new one or the same clot from
last time. Doc seems to think it's a new one...???? And has now said warfarin
for life. I'm a keen hockey player and am 24 years old... Is there no other
resolution to this??? Will going private get me any more answers ??? Please
does anyone have any answers for me???? Thanks

I was told today that the cause of the swelling and pain i have in my left leg could be venous insuffiency but i have never had a clot befor what else could cause this i went to cardiolist and he said i have had 6 scans on this leg every since this has started 10 mths ago all negative for clots he said it is safe to say no clot those scans are the golden statard test for clots. My question is does any one know what cause this venous insuffiency problem i did have a baby 10mths ago and that is when it started.

Many questions--Few answers--Rapid Lysis??

I had a DVT in July last year and I am 32 yrs old. I was unable to walk more than 10 feet without severe pain and shortness of breath. My leg was swollen for months following the DVT and I still experience pain and some swelling today. It wasn't until recently that I have begun to research procedures and other details regarding DVT. From reading the forum it appears that many people have similar symptoms, but doctors have used various methods to treat this condition. And also they do recommend many differing activities to patients after they begin taking coumadin.

I have a few questions I was hoping someone could help me with.

Is rapid lysis practiced often, has anyone had it done? I read about a healthy 19 year old who had it done with success.
Are stents considered for DVT patients?
Venoplasty, or vein grafts? (Any help?, I read of a women on this forum whose doctor recommended it if her swelling returns)
Does weight training or extensive exercise put someo... read more
