New DVT and Traveling

2 weeks ago I had surgery for my vericose veins. I felt fine besides normal tenderness obviously where the veins had been lasered. When I went back for my week follow-up and ultrasound they found a dvt behind my left knee and on my lower calf area. The doctors told me they think my birth control (yaz) played a role in this. Having this happen was the last thing on my mind since I am a young (28) healthy woman. So I was put on Lovenox 2xs a day and Warfarin once. I have since had my labs done twice and both were low so I was told to take 7.5mg instead of 5mg 2x's a week.
I am supposed to go to Mexico May 1st for my Best Friends wedding. The Dr said my medication would be fine by then and I will be ok. I myself am contantly freaking out about everything. I am nervous about the traveling and also I want to be able to enjoy myself and be able to have drinks, lay out at the pool and not worry about anything. It sounds crazy but I am scared if I just enjoy myself as usual (drinking, eat... read more

Student's life saved by biology lecturer who diagnosed DVT blood clots in her leg during class

By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 12:39 PM on 06th April 2010

A student's life was saved when she went to a biology lesson - and her teacher diagnosed that she had potentially fatal blood clots.

When Billie-Jo Twigg's leg became painful and swollen she assumed she had just strained a muscle.

But when the 19-year-old mentioned it to her college biology lecturer Caroline Morgan she was told to get to a doctor as soon as possible.

Three blood clots were discovered in her leg which, if left untreated, could have moved to her lungs causing a potentially fatal pulmonary embolism.

Now Billie-Jo, who goes to Portsmouth College in Hampshire, has thanked her Ms Morgan for saving her life.

Hailing her as a hero, Billie-Jo said: 'If Caroline had not said anything, I probably would have just left it and waited for it to get better itself.

'I honestly just thought I had spr... read more

Wow!
It is very rare to have this disorder, especially for men!
I have Factor Five, I am 35 years old and am currently expecting, I am in my fourth month.I want to take fish oil, krill oil in particular, There is so much conflicting info on this, some say take it, others say not to, I am not on any kind of anticoag, thank God! I work in a chem lab, and still can't figure it out! My doctor said my risk is very low, because I only have 1 of the 2. I really want the best for my baby. Any thoughts on this?

I was treated for dvt on my left leg and was on warfarin for a few months and everything was ok, then all of a sudden my pain has come back with the top of my left leg haveing shooting pains up and down. The blood clot they have removed by useing drugs did damage my artery for the blood to go through and the horrible shooting pain in my left leg is getting worse. The circulation is very bad on my left leg and i do take one aspirin everyday to make my blood thinner which does help. But when i walk for long periods my leg does hurt lots. Should i go and see a vascular specialist to sort my leg out and can my clot be removed again and also can my artery be repaired in my leg which was damaged by the blood clot before. Realy need some advise on this please help? Circulation in my leg is very bad.

DVT and Warafin

Hi, been on here for a while reading and gathering info from all the people who post. I had a DVT in my right calf a month and a half ago as well as PE. Been on Warafin (8mg) since then and was just wondering about a few things. The pain has gone for the most part and there is a little swelling still there as well as some slight discoloration. Every so often I will get a real bad itch on my calf, has anyone experienced this.

I've also read alot about compression stockings, but no doctor that i've talked to has mentioned anything about them. Are they an absolute must?

I'm also planning a trip this summer with my family, it is by car and is 13 hours. When traveling by car do i need to be worried like I would about a long plane trip?

Any help or answers would really be appreciated. I know there are certain precautions that I need to take but I don't want DVT and my Warafin to rule my life.

Rash - 8 days Post Op

I had arthroscopic knee surgery on 3/24/10. Surgery went fine and my knee is feeling great. I developed a rash on my thigh and lower calf on 3/28/10 and the rash is only on my surgical leg. My calf is becoming sore. I have no swelling and the pain is not worse in my calf when I bend my foot. The Physical Therapist looked at it yesterday and agreed that it was not the redness from a clot but redness from a rash. However - Has anyone else ever had a rash with DVT?

Why is it still painful?

I had large clot in my right leg, from May to Dec of 09. I'm still experiencing pain and slight swelling in my leg. Sometimes it hurts to stand or sit for very long. I seem to only find relief when I prop my leg up. I was wondering if it was possible if the clot as reformed, or if it never really went completely away? If not, is there a reason it's still painful? Like lifelong side effects of the DVT or something?

Possible PE

Hello all. I was diagnosed with a DVT on Jan 11, 2010. On my second day of hospitalization, the nurse noticed that my heartrate was erratic. EKG's showed palpitations, and an echocardiogram showed that my heart is not relaxing in between beats. At that time, I was not experiencing shortness of breath. In the past few weeks, the shortness of breath has increased. I saw a cardiologist, and this past Monday, they did a treadmill stress test, and ever since I have experienced more chest congestion/coughing. This started after the test and has progressively gotten worse. I was not contacted with results after the stress test, which I was told means that there was nothing of great concern to the cardiologist. They have not done any x-rays/scans on my lungs, including when I was hospitalized with the DVT. Is it possible that I have a small PE that could be causing these symptoms? It seems that they would be more severe if that was the cause, but it seems strange to me that all of... read more

Yaz Lawsuit

Since I've tested abnormal for APC Resistance and have to have further testing later this month, when I saw one of those commercials for a class action lawsuit against the maker of Yaz, I called and had my info taken. The law firm is taking my case and fedexed me paperwork to sign. They were interested in the fact that I tested abnormal for a genetic clotting disorder.

Initially, I held off contacting any law firm until I had the result of my genetic testing. However, something told me to give them a call anyway and I'm glad I did. They are trying to push for the drug manufacturer to add to the Yaz prescription instructions that patients should be tested for genetic clotting disorders that they may not be aware of before being put on Yaz. Somehow having the disorder, although possibly dormant coupled with the Yaz is what may be causing DVTs and the associated problems.

Just wanted to share this with everyone. I'll keep you posted as this develops.

Compression stockings

I was diagnosed with DVT 7/16/09, but I'd had it and dealt with swelling and pain for
a month beforehand, but I didn't have any real risk factors, so it wasn't the first thing
checked out. I'm disappointed as I read here that I know it's in my left foot/ankle
somewhere, but don't know where exactly, so I don't know how it can be monitored to
be sure it's gone.

I have an appointment to get measured for compression stockings, since I currently
can't wear shoes. I don't know anything about them, other than you have to get
measured and have a prescription. Is this typically covered by insurance, like a
medicine co-pay, if you have an HMO?

Thanks! I'm sure I'll have other questions, but this is the burning one for the moment.

being proactive about your warfarin dosage

My dosage just as soon as it got regulated was 3.75 6x 2.5 1x week. And it was good
and stable through Oct, Nov, Dec, early part of Jan. But then in Jan I finally got control
of the swelling. In Jan I started working out regularly- I realized I could not tolerate
high-intensity cardio day after day, but I could alternate it with strength training,
yoga, etc. and do 6 days a week reliably.

No INR test has given me any confidence since Jan. I test, it's low, they say, take 5
instead of 3.75 the night they call and then go back to the regular schedule, take a
test 3 weeks later. I do, and what do you know, it's low again (and I suspect I've been
low and therefore not theraputic all that time) so they say do the 5 again, come back
in a week (2.2) and they say, ok, come back in 3 weeks. I do, and it's even lower than
the last one. And I'm going to Las Vegas, so I call and ask to talk to the doc, because I
want to know if I have more than one drink a week- ... read more
