pregnancy after DVT

I was diagnosed with DVT at the age of 17 after taking the contraceptive pill for 6 months. I had daily injections of clexane for 3 weeks as well as taking warfrin for almost a year.
I had a total of 3 clots, one in my calf, one behind my knee and one in my groin!
After coming off the warfrin I had a thrombophilia screening carried out which came back normal meaning that I have no underlying problems that cause the clots.
I am now 23 and would love to have a baby but im so nervous about the DVT returning and would love some advice from anyone who is in a simular situation.

Hi all. I had a DVT and PE 10 years ago after knee surgery. I was 33 fit and healthy. I was on warfarin for 10 months and have had no problems since. My question is about flying, at the time I was told not to fly for longer than about 4 hours, to use stockings and asprin and be vigilant. 10 years on and I want to fly for longer so want to know if the risk is less now its 10 years ago?? Getting married and want to go further than med for honeymoon! Any advice gratefully received. Thanks

Just happy to find this site!! My DH had a DVT diagnosed on Feb 2010. We are just 2 months past and there is no improvement on his pain. I just want my husband back. I feel like I'm in mourning right now for the loss of activity he does. He goes to work (sits most the day) and comes home to lay on the couch. I know its not about me...think of the pain he is in daily, but we are both depressed about this.
Please some one give me a good story about it actually getting better.

I was diagnosed with Bilateral Upper Extremity Deep Vein Thrombosis two years ago and was treated with Warfarin and Lovenox. My resolved and Ultrasounds taken 8 months later were clear. However, since that time I have had a lot of pain in my arms - similar to tennis elbow - but in both arms. Can UEDVT cause a permanent disabling condtition?

hi all, i am a twin, 26 years old. my father had DVT (i dont know the in's and outs - died when he was 33), anyway, my twin was recently dianosed with DVT and has ezcma like spots, it is exactly the same for me, the (the ezcma/spots) is much worse on his legs, i aslo have them on my legs.

i have been getting more and more concerned about it for a few reasons, and i dont know if its a DVT thing or something to do with a neurological condition i have.
for the last year i have been getting sharp pain in my hips, mostly left side and pain also in the centre of my back near the tail of the spine, or just over it. this pain i have experienced when walking and a few times when sitting, anyway this pain i get pretty much brings me to a place where i can not walk, i loose complete control and "almost" collapse for a split second and then i am ok. this happens once every while and have not seen a doctor about it. the last time it happened i was just getting up from sitting, and had the s... read more

42 yo male. I got my 1st DVT and Bi lat PE in 08. I came back from a long business trip and went hiking the following day. I laid down that afternoon for a nap and woke up with my leg in pain. Went to sleep that night and woke the following morning and couldnt put any weight on the leg. I stayed off my leg on Sunday and went to work on Monday in bearable pain but by the end of the day it was red and swolen and extremely painful.I went to the ER and was diagnosed with cellulitis, put on an IV antibiotic drip and sent home with more antibiotics. 4 days later the leg is triple normal size and back to the ER where the attending physician orderd an immediate ultrasound and confirmed a dvt with my deep vein now occlusive. Spent a couple days in the hospital and sent home on warfarin and lovenox shots. The first night home I experienced extreme burning in my lungs an went to the ER where they found through a CT that I had a Bi lat PE with 2 clots in my left lung and one in my right. They i... read more

I know that vein reflux is a complication caused by DVT, some say its another name for Post Thrombotic Syndrome, however does anyone have it and what are the symptoms, I have a weird feeling in my groin area that feels life the valves are backwashing the blood if that makes sense. Is this normal for vein insufficiency I do have an appt. but I am still scared cause I don't want to go through this clot thing again. And to top it off its the opposite leg from my affected leg with the clot

This pain is very sharp, taking my breath away several times over the last 3 days. Now I am having some strange aching in that leg, below the knee as well, though it is not swollen. Lately I have had swollen hands and feel, and wonder if all this is somehow related. And could it be DVT. Its very painful.

i am a 33 year old female who is healthy and active. i just got out of the hospital with a small dvt in my iliac vien. i was on heparin shots for 4 days and now on 6mg of warfarin. any advice for me? this is so scary and makes me nervous. the only cause they can see of this is the birth control pill. they say they RARELY see this so its kind of scary/strange. i am down to a 2.1 INR level. any tips of how to handle or what to expect in future? do most people get another clot?

Weird Post Thrombo Syndrome

Anyone have the feeling of the hair on your legs being pulled even though you don't have any hair?

I'm 8 mos after DVT diagnosis in left leg and per my Dopplar, my clot is dissolved. I do have PTS to a certain degree because my leg aches if I sit or stand too long or exercise too vigourously.

Now I have another symptom every once in while. The only way to describe it is as if I had hair on my legs that is being pulled. It is only a momentary feeling, but sometimes is enough to make me yelp.

I hate having had this DVT, I never know what type of after effects to expect.

I was frozen to death- and it saved my life

In April last year, Vonetta Flowerdew struggled to sit upright in her hospital bed, took her husband Bob's hand and said: 'Kiss the children for me, tell them goodbye and that Mummy loves them very much.'

Vonetta, the wife of Bob Flowerdew - one of the experts on Radio 4's Gardeners' Question Time - was convinced she was dying and would never see her four-year-old twins Italia and Malachi again.

Vonetta was suffering from a rare form of blood clotting which had blocked the arteries round her heart, creating a condition known as chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.

But for a pioneering and radical form of surgery offered only in the UK at Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, she would now be dead.

The surgery, which can take up to 11 hours to complete, is one of the most complex and difficult heart-and-lung operations being undertaken in the world tod... read more

Hi everyone,

My mother had a blood clot in one leg about 6 months ago. Everything seemed to be going fine and she recently came off the medication. Now, about 2 weeks later, the opposite knee is swollen, bruised and sore. She just called to tell me, so I haven't seen it myself, to judge just how bad it is. She says it has been like this for four days now. Could this be another blood clot? My mother has taken aspirin and says she will see how the knee feels tomorrow. She may go to a walk in clinic. If it were up to me, we would go to the emergency room right away, however the long wait times are putting her off. Is this something we should be really concerned about? Sounds like a silly question, however my mother seems to think it could possibly be phlebitis, which she feels is not an immediate threat...in other words, a visit in the next few days to a regular doctor will suffice. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you so much.
