Has anyone ever tried anything like this (go to link) http://www.footsmart.com/P-FootSmart-Calf-Support-30042.aspx How far out (after onset) did you use it? Did it work (like a compression stocking). If it does I was thinking I could wear this in the summer with capris. Anyone know of a compression stockings with no feet for summer? |

What was it that made you think you might have DVT? What prompted you to make that visit to the Dr? Mine started on a flight to Australia. In the last hour of the flight it felt like my left calf cramped badly. Oh well, I thought, I'll walk it off when I get off the plane. But the cramp persisted for the next 5 weeks or so ... and then went away. What relief! But at the same time, my entire left leg started really aching as though my ITB issues were acting up again, only much worse. And I started having trouble walking and breathing and generally doing things ... but I couldn't figure out why. Then at about the 6 week point, I was sitting in the bath looking at my legs and I discovered two things. 1) My left leg was swollen, and my legs don't normally swell. 2) I had what looked like a little rash around my ankle. I figured I had been bitten by something. A couple days later, I walked out to meet my husband coming home from work at the end of the day, like I u... read more |

heparin injections ongoing

Hi and thank you for this forum. My husband was diagnosed with dvt in lower left leg over two weeks ago. The hospital has not taken him off the heparin injections while they try to stabilize the warferin pills. Is this normal> Everything I have read says that the injections shuld only be for the first few days. Does this mean the warferin isn't working? The hospital seem reluctant to answer questions - they just say 'everyone's different'. The swelling and redness has not changed since the first day. He is not overweitgh or a smoker and hasn't been inactive. Probably genetic. Any thoughts / ideas much appreciated. Many thanks. |

I had an aterial clot in 2007 then thigh length DVT and Double PE in Sep/Oct 2009 and have been diagnosed with Hughes syndrome (APS). On Warfarin for life now and this appears to have put a dampener on me and the wifes plans to go travelling around the world. Can anybody offer advice on whether I am safe to longhaul (probably 10-12 hours max) Doctor says no but i'm a great believer that they often put up the premature umbrella to avoid the possible fall out. If they tell me it WILL kill me i will probably give it a miss. If they're just covering their backs I may be persuaded to take a chance. What the worse that can happen!!! |

Hi guys, I know this is probably basic basic, and I know what have a high INR means...I just don't know the complications well enough to understand. I know I have thinner blood, which is potentially dangrous if I were to get cut, fall etc... I remember the doctor's talking about internal bleeding...can that happen spontaneously, or does it have to be provoked by some kind of blow? I feel so much...saer with a high INR than with a low one for some reason and I don't know if that's logical. To top it all off, I am studying abroad right now which complicates things if anything were to ever happen....god forbid. Thanks! |

High altitude climbing/hiking

Was wondering if anybody out there has done any hiking/climbing at high altitude 12,000 feet or more while being on coumadin/warfarin. If so did you experience any difficulties with circulation or did you sense any clotting symptoms. I have been on Warfarin for close to two years because of a left leg DVT and multiple PEs in the lungs. Before all of this I was an avid mountain climber/hiker - but since have done absolutely no climbing above 3,000 feet. Been a basket case and a nervous wreck to even think about getting back into climbing anything significant. Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you |

Chronic DVT's

Recently diagnosed with 2 chronic DVT's on my right side, one very old in right femoral vein, and the other more recent (2-3 yrs) of right external iliac. Possible May-Thurner's. Bilateral edema, and significant pain which has impacted my quality of life very much. Possible stent suggested for M.Thurner's and treatment of chronic DVT's suggested via graft surgery. I have large engorged collateral veins criss-crossing my abdomen. They will always be there but with treatment they may thin down. Treating the chronic DVT's could really improve my swelling and pain. Waiting to see how things come together, and what the doctor will decide. Scared and hopeful all at once. More scared that I will be left like this than facing the surgery. As hard as it would be I am most afraid of having no hope of getting better. It's been a long journey to this point. Any information or support is most appreciated. |

My 17 year old daughter is recovering form a major DVT affecting her whole leg and pelvis. Her whole leg was extremely swollen and very painful for 18 days. She has been taking Warfarin for 4-5 weeks now and her leg is much better but still getting swollen - especially towards the end of teh day. We have jsut joined a gym so we can go swimming and start to do some gentle but regular exercise. She will be on Warfarin for 6 months and I was wondering when her leg will stop swelling? Any tips about exercise and recovery woould be gratefully received. |

Has anyone gotten a DVT due to pregnancy? How were you treated? Was it during your pregnancy or after your pregnancy? And how did this affect later pregnancies? I am 23 years old and developed a DVT in my left groin at about 37 weeks. I went in for an ultrasound due to pain and swelling and they didn't find anything. Four days later, with worsening symptoms, I went in again and had a clot that was almost a foot long. I was in the hospital for 10 days before they induced me. I had a healthy baby girl and then was put on coumadin for 6 months. I still have residual clot that probably won't go away. My leg still swells and my veinsd are quite the sight. My Dr thinks I'll probably have to do blood thinners throughout all future pregnancies. |

Anyone have wearing of the toe area of their support hose, I seem to be wearing small holes in the area of the large toe. I keep the nails very short. Also I switched form thigh highs to knee-highs because of the hot weather, better to wear something than nothing. I know thigh highs are better, but only if I wear them. |

hey there i was first diagnosed 3 years ago with a clot in my right leg, was told non threatening after six months so got taken off coumadin. a month later, my left leg was really hot and heavy like lead and also very painful again, found out 5 dvts had occurred due to lack of a protein. i asked my doctor if all i needed was a protein shake, but apparently this protein is something our bodies produce and i do not produce it anymore. my legs have been really sensitive ever since, i keep getting cramps and spasms which can be very painful, dont last long thank goodness but very scary to say the least. i cant sit down at my desk too long, and if i have to i walk my legs, and i cant stand up for too long either. since being on coumadin, i am tired a hell of a lot which is very frustrating as my son cant understand and others just think i'm lazy. i have panic attacks when i have to go further away from my home for fear of leg cramps. the only good thing i can say about the whole ... read more |

Hello everyone, I have just found this site and have been reading with great interest - it's a wonderful resource. I am a 41yr-old male and was diagnosed almost two weeks ago with two DVT, one behind my left knee and one in my lower left thigh. Out of the blue: no injury, surgery etc. Since then have been on Lovenox (2 x day) and warfarin, increasing from 5 mg - 10 mg. Today my INR was at 2.5 (up from 1.7), still on Lovenox for another 24-48 hours while we recheck levels tomorrow. At this point the pain and swelling is not bad at all - I have more or less full mobility and can walk for fairly long distances. I'm experiencing a few mild side-effects, chiefly a kind of tingle or prickle or "cold heat" that comes on periodically, in many different places on my body. Nothing too dramatic, coming and going. I get some very occasional light-headedness; I wouldn't describe it as dizziness or disorientation, just a light moment. I've been putting it down... read more |

Vitiligo twin treatment Vitiligo tablets Plus Vitiligo cream What Causes Vitiligo? The exact cause for the pigmentary disorder remains unknown. However, there are theories suggesting autoimmune link, hormonal connection, genetic tendencies, etc. Vitiligo may be an autoimmune disease. These diseases happen when your immune system mistakenly attacks some part of your own body. In vitiligo, the immune system may destroy the melanocytes in the skin. The familial incidence is almost 20 to 30%. Often observed in the family members. If the parents have Vitiligo, there are more chances of one developing the same. However, it is not a rule. At the same time, numerous cases of vitiligo do not have a relevant family history of Vitiligo. Vitiligo Tablets Treatment Treating Vitiligo with our Anti Vitiligo Tablets requires the patient to take regular dose of the pills until the skin is completely clear from Vitiligo. The dose is then lowered to a level sufficient t... read more |

Hello, have landed on this site thru searching www. Today (Friday) I have had a positive d - dimer test and been started on clexane 150mg. The hospital has said i can have a scan next Thursday but is it an Xray or an USS and if it is an Xray, does that pick up clots? I am in so much pain and have taken two paracetamol but do have Co-Codamol but not sure if i can take that with the clexane. Also is it safe to have the scan so far long away or is that normal NHS timescales? hope someone can help me. |

Hi, My dad got his 2nd DVT in his left leg in Oct (2nd one in 2 years) and his INR is still all over the place although he has reached the theraputic rnage. His doctor say's that the discoloration and swelling on his leg will never truelly go away, but recently he started to complain of a constant itch on his leg and when he went the docs they said that it was vascular eczema caused by the blood clot, he was given steriod cream and a cooling cream but his leg has began to smell like damp straw from a rabbit hutch!! Has anybody else had any similar experiences? Were all really worried as we have not heard of this before. Thank you Becy |

Other problems after DVT?

I was diagnosed with patella-femoral syndrome recently, 7-8 months after my thigh- to-toes DVT on my left side. (I'm still on warfarin until the 1 yr point, in July.) I had a dull achey pain on the kneecaps after working out/doing certain activities. I saw a PT, and cut out the activities aggravating it, and it seemed quite manageable, even during some intense exercise. I did not have problems with my kneecaps prior to the DVT, but I also hit the highest weight I've ever been about 8 months prior, and while the DVT was not diagnosed/first two months after I was limping significantly because of swelling and soft tissue damage to my left ankle and shin. Two weeks of no exercise (planned rest) later, I am in a lot of pain. And of course, I can't take any NSAIDs, etc. A week into it, I was having trouble falling asleep because of my knee aching, I went to see the PT again, and she gave me new exercises to do every day and some to do only on days when I don't ha... read more |
