Hi

I have a small calf DVT that was unexplained. Good old NHS have said that I should be able to see a consultant at some point after the warfarin has stopped ....

I'm fortunate enough to have private medical insurance through my job, am I better to be referred to a vascular expert or a haematologist to do a follow up to try and find the possible cause ?

Would appreciate your experienced views on this ....

Ache in non-DVT leg

Hi, I had a right calf DVT diagnosed a week ago, and since Monday my left shin/calf have been aching.

I asked the haematology nurses about it today and if I could get it scanned, and they said there was no point as treatment would be the same even if it was a 2nd DVT. The nurse told me in her 10 years she had only seen 1 case of bilateral dvt.

I wanted to know as it would (a) give me peace of mind and (b) may help with identifying the reason.

Have many others had the 'good' leg aching shortly after starting meds ?

Hi everyone. I had a baby girl in january of this year. On december 21 2009 I
was admitted to the hospital with a considerably large blod clot in my groin of
my left leg. I can't remember what artery my doctor told me it was in but I will
ask on my next drs appt. I had been having continual severe pain and swelling
in the leg for about a week and a half prior to hospitilization. Thinking that the
baby was resting on my sciatic nerve or something, I barely made it to the
hospital. I was in for 18 days. They had me on a heparin drip initally, and kept
switching me off and on with lovenox injections.I really felt as though the
doctors didn't know what they were doing. So I have been taking 12.5 mg of
warafarin for the past 4 months to stay theraputic. I will be on this for 2 more
months. What I'm wondering is if anyone has been in a similar situation? If my
leg will be slightly bigger than the other one for life? Is there any kind of
surgery to "clean the blood... read more

Anxiety Disorder After DVT

Anyone else been diagnosed with anxiety disorder after DVT? I believe I always had a tendency towards anxiety, but since having a DVT, being diagnosed with genetic clotting disorder that was possibly caused by birth control, and having to stop taking birth control, I've developed a full blown anxiety disorder to the point where I may need to start taking medication.

Hematologist told me I'm now more susceptiple to clots and have to be careful of injury. This is always in the back of mind along with other anxious thoughts on everything in general. This along with now having less estrogen in my body at age 47 after being on birth control for 30 years has me not feeling like myself anymore.

Anyone else experience this?

Italian saint died of blood clot in heart, researchers say

Researchers have used X-ray techniques to uncover the cause of death of a 700-year-old Italian saint.

Santa Rosa - who died when she was 18 or 19 years old - was most likely killed by a blood clot in the heart, say the Italian research team.

It is said the 13th Century saint had miraculous powers that allowed her to raise someone from the dead and to survive the flames of a burning pyre.

Her mummified remains are conserved in a monastery near Rome.

The research team had been asked in 1995 to carry out some preservation work on the body, which was showing signs of damage.

As part of the restoration work, they were able to take X-rays using a mobile device.

Pain in leg during excercise after recovery

I had DVT in my right calf and a PE in November 2009. I'm on 5.0 warfarin a day, no injections.

Before this happened to me I was a runner. I would run 30 minutes a day 5 or 6 days a week. It's the only work out I can tolerate and stick to, I like it.

Today I went running for the first time since this happened to me, the hemotologist told it was okay to run again a few weeks ago.

My breathing is great, I felt I could have done my entire routine the first day back out there but my leg was no co-operating.
After about 2 minutes of running I had to stop because of the pain in my leg. After a few minutes the pain goes away.

My left leg was fine.

Will the pain in my right leg ever go away during running or is this with me for life? I'm assuming the circulation still isn't 100% back to normal and from what I understand probably never will be. The doc told me that even though I'm on warfarin that the inside wall of the vein still has some of the clot left behind and that ... read more

Is it true that you probably won't get a PE if your dvt is stable after 3 months?

Has anyone else been experiencing this? It has been getting really bad. I noticed it started when I went back on my coumadine. My husband says I was like this last time I was on it. I hate to think I am losing it already, I am only 27!I will ask the doctor about it next time, but I don't want to sound crazy. Just wondering if I am alone?

okay so yesterday i had a venous doppler down on my left leg, cause it had been bothering me. It was negative for DVT. I asked the technician to do my right leg as well cause it had been bothering me as well. But she couldnt because the dr didnt order the right leg. She only checked on spot on my right thigh, like near my groin area. And she listened to the blood flow. Should I be okay from DVT if she didnt check the whole leg? she told me not to worry, thats is most likely muscular, but im worried because she didnt check the whole leg... any ideas??

Hi, I'm 20 years old and was diagnosed with a blood clot going from my groin to half way down to the knee on my left leg. This was approx two weeks ago. I had the tinzaparin injections for a few days then was put on Warfarin and my INR is currently 2.7ish. Problem is, the clot has now extended down to just above my knee but it still ends at my groin meaning it has grown bigger. I thought Warfarin was meant to prevent growth of existing clots and the formation of new ones. Luckily it hasn't grown upwards. Are there people whose blood seems immune to the effects of Warfarin? I was on the Yasmin birth control pill and came off it 2 weeks ago after I was admitted to hospital. Could there still be residual hormones playing about with my blood? Thanks :D

World Cup player with a DVT

Getting ready to cheer on my favorite team in the World Cup, Ghana! On of their
players (who played for Bologna) had a knee injury in winter 2007, put off surgery
and played w/ painkillers for the rest of the season (also having patella-femoral
syndrome which isn't nearly as serious but hurts like heck while just trying to go
about my non-athletic day, I just cannot imagine) until the end of the season (May).

Two months after, Stephen Appiah was not only having pain but breathing
problems, which under "club" medical care was diagnosed with asthma, and treated
for asthma. When he saw non-club doctors in December, they found he had a clot
in his knee, and the breathing issues from micro-PEs. YIKES, right?

Ghana plays Serbia (this is going to be a tough match, and it's unclear if Appiah will
be able to play at the top of his game, media reports are lagging) at 10am E/7am P
Sunday June 13th (2010). Let's cheer for "one of our own!"

PE Pain :How long?

Hi, About 3 weeks ago I was diagnosed with a PE in my right lower lung. I am currently on Warfarin and still learning how to balance my levels. My question is, how long does the pain last? I understand that inflammation takes time to heal and not being able to take anti-inflammatories drags it out. I have been taking tylenol for the pain and hot compresses for the inflammation. It seems like everytime I think it is getting better, it flares up and I'm back to square one. It is worse at night and quite frustrating. I have spoken with my primary and pulmonologist and neither seemed to be concerned, should I be?

I've DVT since last 5 months or so. By the grace of GOD and proper treatment it is much better now. I'm slated to travel to Melbourne, Australia for a while.

I'd like to know what is the cost of:
1. Doctor Consultation (generally)
2. Doppler Test
3. PT INR test
4. Acitrom tablets

If you know any hospitals specialized in DVT or similar in Melbourne, please let me know.

Words of wisdom for DVT 'newbie'

Hi

I was diagnosed with a small DVT in my anterior tibial vein on Friday - this was after having some very mild calf ache for a few days last week. The only reason I went to the docs was because my mum died of a PE, I wasn't expecting in a million years they would actually find one.

I am on the heparin injections and am currently on 6mg of Warfarin until my next check on Thursday (INR currently 1.7)

I have a few queries that I wanted to raise with the haematology nurses, but so far haven't had an opportunity to do so, and wondered if all of the experience on here could help ....

I'm not in any of the traditional 'at risk' categories other than what happened to my mum. I am going to ask for the Factor V Leiden test, is there anything else I should try to get ? If the cause doesn't appear to be this, what else is usually done to try and find out (if anything?)

Does the location of where the DVT is found given any indication of cause or likelihood of re-occurence. Mine w... read more
