Anyone else been diagnosed with this? I'm not even really too sure what this is, but the hematogist told me I tested positive for MTHFR DNA Mutation along with the Factor V, (the one strain variety). |

My DVT in my right leg was diagnosed back in January, and I am still on warfarin until the haematologist tells me otherwise. However, I have been advised that I can do some 'gentle' exercise ie walking, swimmimg. But the gym has a vibtration exercise machine that I would now like to try-however, is this a safe option for me to consider? Have any of you used these things after being diagnosed with a DVT? All advice/comments will be very welcome. Many thanks |

Hiya all, Just a quick question..as like all, I had a DVT with PE at the end of April. So far all the treatment I have has BEEN given is LOVENOX INJ (2 daily) and now Arixtra inj (1 a day) never have been prescribed warfarin or coumadin. I was told that I would be on Injections for at least 6 months. and reviewed after that. Has anyone else gone through this type of treatment program?? Or on this type program? What are some of your thoughts?? Thank you all for your assistance. |

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience treating PTS with pain management. I'm curious to know if there's anything aside from analgesics and Nsaids that could be offered. |

I have been trying to get some replacement stockings and when I asked my GP for some he told me that I should NOT be wearing them as they cause leg ulcers. I thought the idea of the stockings is to prevent PTS and leg ulcers!!!!. As I have said in this forum before why cant there be specialists in the NHS who treat people with DVT. |

Permanent Clot

After all the Coumadin, heparin and LMWH for six months the clot is still there. Radiologist said it is permanent. Has anyone had this besides me? Two Drs. say to forget about it as the other veins will eventually learn to work and will probably lead to vericose veins at the worst in the future. The other option by one Dr.is to have a vascular sugeon go in and get rid of it. I'm having knee replacements this summer so another surgery is not really an option. Thanks for any and all info~Margie |

Hi,I've had advt in my lower calf for 6 months now and am on warferin. I knew that i shouldnt be on birth control pills but was shocked when my doctor told me today that my main options were having my tubes tied or my husband having a vacectomy. We are currently using condoms and not happy to continue with these for ever. Does anyone know of any other safe methods of contraception as im only 34 and too young for sterilization. |

I experienced a DVT in my left leg in January. I am due to come off of coumadin w/in the next month. However, I am beginning to experience a lot of pain in my leg..sometimes worse than the initial pain of the DVT. I am confident that it is PTS, so I have begun wearing a thigh-high compression stocking. However, it seems that the pain is worse with the stocking than without. Is this just some initial pain that will lessen as time goes on? The pain seems worse after being on the treadmill..but i know that I need to be on the treadmill to try to prevent future clots. Any suggestions? |

What will happen if I drink Alcohol?

The worst thing affecting my life since being diagnosed with extensive DVT is being told that I can't drink alcohol, what a nightmare! What are the risks if I continue to drink whilst on the injections and Warfarin? Does it affect the treatment from working or is it just a case of potential liver damage? Surely a few good sessions would be ok? Why do they tell us not to drink except keeping within those silly government guidelines? Thank you in advance for your answers! |

INR testing in UK for Australian travellers

I'm an Australian citizen travelling to UK for a short holiday soon. I'm on Warfarin for a DVT and heart AF and wonder if others who have been to UK recently can advise on getting INR tested in UK. Where do you go? - hospital? specialised clinic? GP? How long do results take to get back to you? Any cost? I know UK and Australia have reciprocal emergency medical agreements but this is ongoing rather than emergency. Also I realise I could get a machine and do my own INR test but I'd rather save the cost if possible. Thanks for any info. |

Hi, I have just started on the Warfarin and injections. A question I never asked was, how do they monitor the clot and is it ever scanned again to rule out any more growth or to check if it has gone? Thanks |

Our daughter has been getting clots in her legs for the last six years. Some of the clots are superficial and some have significantly reduced the flow through her femoral veins. All but the first clot occurred while she was on anticoagulants (warfarin/Lovenox). She's seen many doctors, including hematologists, vascular surgeons, a geneticist, and a diagnostician. No one can tell us why she's clotting. And, unfortunately, most of the doctors don't seem to care about the "why." They just want to continue treating the systems, even though she continues to clot. We are posting to this forum to extend our search for answers. Our hope is that a doctor who is also interested in finding answers may read this and join our effort. So, here's some technical info: - Significant elevation in Lp(a) - Heterozygeous MTHFR 677T status - One positive test for lupus anticoagulant (all subsequent tests have been negative) - Borderline FANA tests - D-dimers and monocyte counts a... read more |

VARICOSE VEIN REMOVAL

This post was in response to Sharon's post on another thread, but I think it merits a new topic. Here goes: Wow, Sharon, that is a horror story about the woman losing both legs from vein stripping. What year did that happen and do you know where it happened? Very sad story. I have something to add about this subject as I suspect there are many post-DVT people who also suffer with varicose veins. I had my varicose vein removed exactly 2 years after my DVT and my diagnosis of May-Thurner Syndrome. I do not have a blood clotting disorder, which may have factored into the surgeon's decision that I was a good candidate for Vein Closure. First off, I don't think they do vein stripping anymore. My vascular surgeon told me (18 months ago) when I had my Vein Closure procedure that "stripping" was still done in Russia and sighed heavily as he said it. I had Ultrasound Vein Closure, whereby using ultrasound the physician inserts a "Closure Catheter" into the diseased vein throu... read more |

I was diagnosed with a DVT behind my right knee 6 months ago, but since my medication changed from Heparin injectionsto the Warfarin tablets, I feel extremely tired all the time and generally 'washed out'. I have mentioned this to my GP, but was advised that I would have to live with! Any comments or advice would be very welcome. Thanks. |

Since having a DVT in my left leg and PE, I've been on Warfarin/Coumadin. I suffer from extreme fatigue and pain in the bend of my leg; typically in early morning hours. Additionally, I'm a Parole Agent and am concerned about the fact that if I'm shot or stabbed, my blood will not clot and I'll bleed out lickety split. I guess my main question is: Am I the Lone Ranger or are these symptoms typical post DVT and does the fatigue ever go away. I've also packed on the pounds and would like to think that it's from the Warfarin but I would suspect that it could also be attributed to the lack of motivation from being chronically exhausted. I'm prior United States Army and am not a slug, but I certainly feel like one now. Comments/questions much appreciated. |

Type of Exercise?

Quick summary: DVT almost 1 year ago (July 2009) full length of left lef (upper thigh to ankle). Started with walking about a month after DVT. Today I walk, bike, play tennis, and do circuit training with weights. The leg still turns colors though the swelling is minimal, and I wear the famous stockings daily. My question is what type of excercise do others do and what do they think is best. I started out strictly walking, but started to diversify with biking, circuit training with weights, and some tennis. At first I felt that walking was the only exercise that I should be doing because the goal was to increase circulation particularly in the lower legs, and to work on the pumps in my legs (calf muscles). However, I've always cross trained and missed the circuit training and cycling. What do people think? Should I just stick with the walking...is that the best? Or does it really matter that much as long as you keep moving? Thank you for any comments. |

My husband (40 years) has this condition on his right leg due to a serious injury 20 years ago. We have seen vascular surgeons, a very reputable doctor at a vein center, etc. etc. It appears as though there is nothing we can do to reverse the problem and we are focusing on compression stocking etc. to maintain it. However, speaking with another medical professional recently, he told us about a newer product that works as a circulatory enhancer ( somewhat like a pillow worn at night with oxygen pressure) that may assist in helping it. He gave me the name of the company that produced the product as well as well as the name of the product - which I promptly misplaced. Anyone know anything? The company name had "compression" in it. I am looking for anything that can help us with this situation. Thank you. |
