DVT questions new here

Hi everyone
Very long story short. I had a DVT, illiac to poppiliteal, when I was 32 weeks pregnant with twins. Went into labor naturally since I was in so much pain and I had an ER csection while on heparin(no other choice.)
Everything turned out fine with my babies, and I was in the hospital for 11 days on heparin released when I was therapeutic on coumadin, and am now keeping my INR between 2-3.
Of course I am always worried that it will spread, but am trusting God and staying on my warfarin. My question is I dont know what I can and cannot do. The doctors say that I can do anything, since it is now encapsulated. But...I treat that leg (my left) as it is very very fragile. I always put it up and dont even drive yet, as this just happened 4 weeks ago. I am even cautious about walking on it. I was told that I will be on warfarin for 6 months.
I did test positive for the c and s protein factor, but again will be retested in 4 weeks since I was pregnant when they tested me, and ... read more

Hey
I'm 17 and 3 months ago i got a blood clot from my belly button to half way down my thigh.
I have a prothombin gene mutation and was told that i got the clot because of my estrogen only contraceptive pill.
So im on a progesterone only pill now and its not really working out for me, my last period has lasted for 12 days and still counting. I was wondering if any other girls have been on the IUD Merina?
What are the pros and cons.
Thanks :D

My brother has dvt in right calf. They can't seem to get his levels to anything higher than 1.9. He's been in the hospital for 15 days (46 yrs. old - healthy, dvt caused by trauma - he fell of his bike and bumped his leg). Part of diet in the hospital includes fruit. Should he be avoiding fruit? He said he has been told to avoid green leafy vegetables but that's all. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks so much.

Hi
I am considering having some treatment for an extensive DVT I developed in my left pelvis and leg, about 2 years ago. I have been given the name of Dr Mark Garcia (Christiana Hospital, Deleware). Has anyone had any treatment from this doctor for their DVT - if so I would really like to hear your experiences of him and your treatment.
Many thanks

At the one-year mark

A year ago yesterday was my diagnosis, a DVT from thigh to second toe, a clot
which had probably started forming 3.5-4 weeks earlier. In that time I saw my doc
4x, but I didn't have the "risk factors" for a clot.

My doc emailed this week to say I was getting my referral to a hematologist to
discuss the full range of testing to determine my risk of another one, and what I
need to know before having children. I tested negative for Factor V but positive for
APS, and the rest could not be done while on warfarin. And the APS has to be
repeated.

I so hope I'll be told when I drop the warfarin and can stay off it, or my doc and I
and the warfarin clinic will be having a discussion about bike riding, roller skating
and the reinstatement of green tea.

Anyone have any advice as to questions for the hematologist??

Does the clot form a protective shield?

I have heard somewhere on the Forum that a protective shield forms around the DVT clot 3 months from taking the Warfarin medication thus making it unlikely that the clot will cause one any complications. Has anybody heard anything about this and is there any medical proof?

Hi
I have posted a few times.
My story to date is I had pain in my calf for a week. I am fit young and active. Eventually went to out of hours Dr who did a D-Dimer which was positive. I had two days of Tinziparin then went to the practice nurse. She looked at my leg and said I did not have a clot but did give me a few more days of injections until the scan was done. I was called by the hospital on the same day. When I offered to come in that day they laughed and said they where to busy and booked me for a scan 5 days later.
I stopped the Tinziparin and treated my leg as a sprain as I don't like being treated like an idiot or laughed at.
Friday last week I had a scan which stopped half way down my calf. This was in the special DVT clinic in the scute hospital. When the DVT nurse told me I was breathless from walking from the scanner to the consulting room. No comment was made. I was told if my leg keeps hurting see my family DR.
Over the week end I was more breathless and my bac... read more

Vitiligo twin treatment Vitiligo tablets Plus Vitiligo cream

What Causes Vitiligo?
The exact cause for the pigmentary disorder remains unknown. However,
there are theories suggesting autoimmune link, hormonal connection,
genetic tendencies, etc. Vitiligo may be an autoimmune disease. These
diseases happen when your immune system mistakenly attacks some part
of your own body. In vitiligo, the immune system may destroy the
melanocytes in the skin. The familial incidence is almost 20 to 30%.
Often observed in the family members. If the parents have Vitiligo,
there are more chances of one developing the same. However, it is not
a rule. At the same time, numerous cases of vitiligo do not have a
relevant family history of Vitiligo.

Vitiligo Tablets Treatment

Treating Vitiligo with our Anti Vitiligo Tablets requires the patient
to take regular dose of the pills until the skin is completely clear
from Vitiligo. The dose is then lowered to a level sufficient t... read more

Periods on warfarin

I had pulmonary emboli in October, and was put on warfarin. I had a
period in November and December, but so far, have not had one in
January. I was on birth control prior to the clots (which combined
with crohn's was the reason for the clots). I'm wondering if it's
just the birth control being out of my system, or something else. My
first period after being on warfarin was horrible. I was dizzy, and
for 2 days had to lie in bed with my legs elevated. I'm worried that
if my period is later, it's going to be worse, and considering how it
was the first time on warfarin, I'm scared.
There's NO way I could be pregnant (haven't had sex in over 5 months
and had pregnancy tests while in the hospital) so I'm just wondering.
Can warfarin make your periods more irregular? Anyone else experience
this?

Recovery time from DVT

Hello, everyone - I am not sure how this all works. My husband had back surgery two weeks ago and now has what they call "extensive deep vein thrombosis" starting at the top of his thigh and extending down to just above his knee. They have him on the self-injectable Lovenox and oral warfarin for now. His family doctor is going to put him on long-term anticoagulant therapy after that. My question is, how long does it take for any improvement in symptoms to appear? Only because I want to be able to follow his progress to know if things are not going as they should so I can get the appropriate care - and also because if I can tell him that he will start to feel better after so many days or whatever, he will have something to work for as he is very blue about all of this. Can anyone help? Thanks so much.

How long does the pain in the calf last?

Hi all,

I have been off Warfarin for about two months now and am still getting a niggling pain in my calf and around my foot. My circulation is fine and my specialist is not concerned about it to even do ultrasounds. Have to admit it is quite a worry but as this was due to a leg break he thinks it is simply the calf feeling pain from all the exercise I am doing and my other leg is in good enough shape and strength not to be the same strain on it. He also said people normally have lingering pain for some time and not to worry about blood clots coming back. Apart from the pain in the calf and foot I'm not getting any sharp stabbing pains, numbness or swelling in the leg.

Out of curiosity can anyone tell me how long their pain lasted and when if ever it got better.

Cheers

Marcus

How long does it take for the clot to go away?

I was diagnosed with a DVT in my left leg in Feb this year. I've been taking
warfarin since then and using compression tights and initially all my symptoms
went away. They started to come back though as my blood count went down in
early April (it went from a steady 2.5 down to 1.6 before they changed my warfarin
dose at the end of May despite me telling the nurses at each visit my leg didn't feel
right). I met with the consultant last week (first time I've seen him since initial
diagnosis) and explained return of my symptoms - he referred me for another
dopler ultrasound and I was told the clot has gone from my thigh but is still quite
large behind my knee and into my calf. Depending on who I speak to I'm told
either the clot will disperse (again either within a matter of a few weeks or could
take a long time) or it will remain in my vein and my body will cope with it by
diverting blood to other veins in my leg. Does anyone know which is right? I think
