Blue veins appearing on foot?

Hi,

I was diagnosed with DVT in my right calf about 4 months ago. I've had the normal treatments (injections in the stomach, Warfarin, stockings etc etc) but I've recently noticed thin blue veins appearing just below and above the ankle that hurt slightly. I've got an appointment with the docs in a few days because I'm due an INR test anyway, but has anyone else had these veins appear after/during treatment? I'm beginning to wonder if my stockings are too tight!

Si.

I to had blue veins appear but mine did not hurt my GP told me that the blood will find new ways round the damaged vein in its journey back to the heart and as these do not normally take that amount of blood they show up but check it out with you GP

I had my DVT 7 weeks ago, and tiny blue veins appeared all over the affected ankle about 2 weeks ago. They also hurt a bit, although maybe it's just the skin under the veins. They are rather unsightly, and look like a pale bruise when you look at it from afar. The lovely after effects, huh?

My husband noticed the other day that he had a blue bump on the bottom of his foot, kind of like a blue bump that hurt. He didn't have it the other day, it just showed up.
any ideas what this is or caused from?

Good question. I am about 7 weeks into my treatment and noticed minor blue veins in appearing just below the ankle above the head on the side of my foot. I also see it a little on the non-affected side (mine at this point don't hurt). I haven't thought much about it, but plan to see a vascular doc and will ask the question...any info I will post. I just wrote it off to my body going through the healing process.

Never noticed any protruding veins until I had my DVT/PE, now there are many and I have had some of them treated. Still have some on my right knee, ankle and top of my right foot. I think that goes along with the blood clot event. Not noticeable under the support hose.

Hi All, I had a DVT 6 months ago in my right leg and have the same tiny blue veins on my ankle. My doctor said this is typical for a DVT patient as the damaged vein had broken off little veins(not sure what he means though, sounds pretty scary) and that they try to find their way through. (as Dave already explained). They don't hurt and he said it is nothing to worry about.

Hi, not too sure about veins on the foot but there are heaps of them on the top of my thigh on the affected leg - looks like the skin is thin and you can see the veins clearly. very wierd! Also noticed an increase in varicous veins in that leg too

Never had varicose veins until my DVT, now see them lower both legs, had some of them Lasered. Recently had some on my right knee treated as when I bump them they bleed under the skin. Have them on top of my foot, not sure those can be treated, no varicosities on my thighs. Good as I wear knee-highs and no one can see the veins.

Like Dave had mentioned, the blue veins are usually the result of the body finding away around another vein with poor circulation. Your true specialist will advise again having surgery on varicose veins since this is the bodies way of correcting what is broken.

Of course, poor circulation often results in a condition known as Post Thrombotic Syndrome (aka Venous Stress Disorder or Chronic Venous Insufficiency). See the link to a Patient brochure reguarding this:

I had DVT 18 months ago, and just like Simon, after all the treatments,
now I have 2 ACHING veins (not tiny ones, but 2 main veins) above the
place of that clot. I dont know whether I should worry or not???

Spider veins on both ankles getting worse. Darker larger blue veins on
top of both feet. Numb feeling both feet. Hurts to walk. Cannot go bare
foot. Have CAD under control. Shoes are impossible. Being treated for
RSD with lidocaine infusion with little improvement. Any idea. Can this
be heart related? Five years into this. X rays show bad osteoporosis
in both feet.Too many variables. Thanks for any ideas.
