DVT & YAZ - Legal action?

I had been on birth control pills for 30 years when I switched this past February to Yaz. Approximately in April or May of this year I started have calf pain and cramps that progressed to pain that was ultimately diagnosed by doppler as a DVT (no PE, thank God!) I'm now on Warfarin until a repeat doppler in November.I'm scheduled for testing once I'm off Warfarin for genetic blood clotting disorders to rule that out.

My question to you - Does anyone have a similar situation and did you consult with one of those legal firms advertising to file with them if injured by Yaz? Part of me feels like although I didn't have a PE, I did experience a blood clot possibly caused by Yaz, disrupting my life and foring me to take powerful medication.

I also don't know whether I should consult a lawyer now or wait until the genetic testing is done in case I'm positive for a disorder. Thanks for any advice.

i have a quite similar case to you. my only problem before was a heavy menstrual period and intolerable period pains then i have gone to my gp to hopefully be referred to a gynaecologist( as this menstrual problem runs in the family) but then she put me on a pills therapy for 3 months(microgynon) 2 months on the pills and i collapsed twice in one day and my leg was violet and swollen and i was diagnosed with dvt and luckily no pe. with no background of clotting problem doctors are ruling out that pills was the main culprit but then we are still waiting for the results of the genetics test if i have any descripancy in my blood components then hopefully take it from there.

Are there legal cases been taken against the makers of Yaz? I live in Ireland. I began
taking Yaz after the birth of my son. I began taking it in April 08. I had been on the
Pill since 2000, i had taken Microlite and Dianette, with no problems, I came off the Pill
in 2005 whilst trying for children. I got my clot in June 08, I had an ileo femeral dvt
from the back of the knee into my chest. I also had a localized clot in my other thigh
and a PE to the lung. I am now a lifer on Warfarin, with the possability of no more
children due to the severity of my clots and have a filter inserted. I never had any
problems on the other pills, and I have often wondered why this all developed when I
went on Yax, my gp has been very clear that it was the Yaz that caused the clots. I
tested + for Factor V Leiden, but like I mentioned I never had any problems on the
other pills, ive always been convinced since this happened that there is something
extra in the Yaz pill.

Hey Rose, would you know of any firms maybe in Ireland who would do this? Also, I
heard they are being accused of causing the deaths of numerous people because of this
pill, have they come to any conclusion as to what was in the pill to cause the deaths?

I would suggest doing a google search on "Yaz lawsuits". I know that some US law firms will come up, I'm not to sure about Ireland since I'm in the US.

From what I understand about Yaz, it's considered a 4th generation pill with higher levels of a particular hormone that may be the cause of clots.

Rose.

You state the 4th generation pill with higher levels of a particular hormone MAY be the cause of clots, It does state that it DOES cause clots.

This will be winner for the lawyers only. I think my clot was caused by flying but how can i prove this>.. There is not enough evidence to back up any claims and these lawyrs have each others interests as heart, plea bargaining etc, But i wish you well with your case,

All the best and be safe.

I also was on birth control for 25 years and in May of 08 had a clot in my leg , and two PE's on my lungs they inserted a filter..which may or may not have been the cause the internal bleeding which landed me in the ER and almost ended my life. I was in the hospital for a month. At the time the pill was the only thing I had going against me...by the time my genetic testing was all done ...it was still the only thing, everthing else was fine. I couldn't understand how something I had been on for so long could suddenly cause me so many problems. It wasn't until months later that I remembered I had been on YAZ for six months. My GBYN gave it to me to see if it would help with my blood pressure ..I didn't notice much of a differnce so I went back to my regular pill. I haven't confrimed with her what the dates were that I was on it ..BUT it is the only thing that I can think of that could have caused all of this. I am better now and off the coumadin..my leg still bothers my from time to time..but nothing that I can't manage.

I had ankle reconstruction surgery 12/1/09 and by 1/15/10 was diagnosed with extensive acute DVT. My clot runs from the bottom of my calf to above my groin close to my lung.... 3+ feet long! I also saw the ads and due to the severity of the clot, did consult an attorney. They said that the issue with YAZ is a synthetic hormone causing massive issues. Bayer (the mfgr) is about 2-3 months away from issuing the warning. At that time, no new lawsuits will be filed and those active will be settled. My case is currently under review as prior to this, I never had any issues. My DVT has completely changed my life and keeps me in constant pain and swelling. Once simple tasks are no longer simple. My thought was that it didn't hurt to check it out but know that the window for filing is going to close soon.
